With the aim to promote adventure tourism in the State, J&K Tourism Department in collaboration with Indian Mountaineering Foundation New Delhi has organized a National Level Climbathon in the Nun area of Kargil District that is being attended by around 40 national and international mountaineers and climbers.
The Department of Tourism Jammu and Kashmir organized a felicitation ceremony for the participants of Climbathon 2016, at Tourist Facilitation Centre, Kargil on Saturday.
On the occasion Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali was the chief guest while as Chairman, Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC, Kargil Haji Muhammad Hanifa Jan was the guest of honor.
On the occasion chief guest while appreciating the effort of Tourism Department Kargil in organizing this Climbathon at Kargil expressed hope that the step will go long way in enhancing the tourism potential of District Kargil at the national and international level.
While extending his warm welcome to the team leader and the participants of the Climbathon to Kargil he urged upon them to act as messengers to depict the true potential of Kargil in terms of its trekking routes, its wildlife and multiethnic culture and other unique attributes which can be a traveller's true delight.
He also said that the State government particularly the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is committed to the holistic development of tourism sector in Kargil which was the dream of the late Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
Director Tourism Mahmood Ahmad Shah and the Climbathon team leader and a some participants also spoke on the occasion.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Deputy Commissioner, CEO, LAHDC, Kargil haji Hassan Khan, Additional District Development Commissioner Haji Gulzar Hussain, Additional SP Kargil Jameel Ahmad and other district officers.
