Tourism deptt conducts disaster management, rock climbing training program

The Tourism Department, Kashmir organized two-day rock climbing and disaster management training camp at the artificial climbing rock at TRC Nowgam.

The Tourism Department, Kashmir organized two-day rock climbing and disaster management training camp at the artificial climbing rock at TRC Nowgam.

In the event number of members from Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking Club, SDRF and students from different schools participated in the training programme. Master Trainers from Petzel International, Mumbai imparted urban recue, mountain rescue, river rescue besides disaster mitigation skills to students so that these members are ready to carry out rescue operations during any future eventualities.

Director Tourism, Kashmir Mahmood Ahmad Shah said the training programme would help the state to utilize the services of these trained people during disasters.

"We have always witnessed that these people who are trained in adventure activities are at the forefront in the rescue operations. Our state is prone to disasters like floods and earthquakes and we need manpower during such calamities. This program will help us get trained people to rely on during such eventualities," said Mahmood Shah.
