A brilliant century scored by Jiyaad Nazir Magrey helped J&K to register its first win in the Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy One-day tournament as they defeated Kerala by 36 runs at Jaipuria Vidhyalaya Ground, Jaipur on Thursday.
After setting a target of 225 runs to win for Kerala, J&K bundled out its opponents for 189 runs. Govind Sharma was pick of the bowlers taking four wickets.
Earlier J&K won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost inform opener Qamran Iqbal early but Abdul Samad was joined in the middle by Jiyaad and the duo formed 88-run stand for second wicket. Samad was the second wicket to fall in J&K inning on the score of 106 runs after scoring well-composed 46 runs. Next in batsman Vivrant Sharma got out for three runs and Kanhaiya Wadhwan scored 16 before becoming fourth wicket to fall in JK inning.
In the middle Jiyaad was joined by Raghav Sharma. The duo took JK score past 200 run mark. Jiyaad was fifth wicket to fall in the J&K after scoring a brilliant ton of 101 runs from 134 balls. His inning included nine fours and one six. J&K finished inning on 225 runs for the loss of seven wickets in allotted 50 overs. Raghav got out after scoring 40. For Kerala, Nakson Rahul took four wickets.
In reply Kerala got all out for 189 runs with J&K spinners taking bulk of the wickets. Junaid Farooq gave J&K an early breakthrough in the second over by getting Nikhil out for a duck. After that, it was the spin-show with Govind Sharma, Taizeem Tak and Javed Ahmad taking all remaining Kerala wickets, except for a run out. Govind finished with four wicket haul while as Tak and Javed took two wickets each.
It is the first win for J&K in the tournament after having suffered two consecutive defeats in the earlier matches.
