Umran Malik makes it to India A team for South Africa tour

Srinagar, Nov 9: Rising star cricketer from J&K, Umran Malik, who impressed with his raw pace in the recently concluded IPL 2021, has been selected for India-A team for upcoming South Africa tour, Greater Kashmir has learnt.

The Jammu based pacer, who is currently part of J&K senior squad in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament was named in the India-A squad by All India senior selection committee of BCCI on Tuesday.

   

India-A is scheduled to tour South Africa from November 23.The team is scheduled to play three four-day matches during the tour. The squad: Priyank Panchal (Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Devdutt Padikkal, Sarfaraz Khan, Baba Aparajith, Upendra Yadav (wicket-keeper), K Gowtham, Rahul Chahar, Saurabh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Ishan Porel, Umran Malik and Arzan Nagwaswalla.

Umran, who was recently part of India T20 squad in T20 World Cup as net bowler, made a mark after impressing everyone with his sheer pace during Indian Premier League (IPL) for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the UAE. He emerged as the fastest bowler of IPL 2021 by clocking 153kph and consistently bowling over 150 kph.

Umran recently led J&K to win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by bagging a four wicket haul.

Pertinently, India’s squad for T20Is against visiting New Zealand cricket team was also announced. India are set to play 3 T20Is starting from November 17.

The squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice-Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Venkatesh Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Siraj.
