Srinagar: Former skipper Parvez Rasool played a valiant inning amid J&K batting’s failure to put a decent score on board in its opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy One Day tournament at Cricket Club of India, Mumbai on Wednesday.
In the match Gujarat beat J&K by five wickets. Earlier J&K batting failed completely with only Parvez Rasool fighting a lonely battle to give some respect to J&K total.
Gujarat, after winning the toss, invited J&K to bat first. After losing the first wicket on the score of 17, J&K kept losing wickets. They went from 17 for the loss of one wicket in 5.5 overs to 87 in 24.1 overs. Parvez along with Auquib Nabi scored over 150 run mark . They formed a 69 run partnership for the eight wicket. Auquib got out after scoring 27 with J&K total on 156. Parvez was the ninth wicket to fall in the J&K inning after scoring 76 from 77 balls.
J&K got all out for 171 runs in 42.1 overs. For Gujarat, CT Gaja took four wicket haul while Hemang Patel took three.
In reply , Gujarat achieved the target for the loss of five wickets in 36.5 overs. BH Merai with unbeaten 57 was the highest scorer for them while Ripal Patel scored 33. For J&K, Umar Nazir took two wickets while Auquib Nabi and Mujtaba Yousuf took one each.
Gujarat bagged four points from the match.
J&K will play their next match against Himachal Pradesh on Thursday.
