Younis fails to reach deal with PCB

Former Test captain Younis Khan has failed to come to a consensus with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over potentially taking up the role as coach and chief selector of the national junior team, well-informed sources told Dawn on Tuesday.

Younis and the PCB were in negotiations over the former batsman taking up the two roles but sources in the board said that he was demanding a hefty remuneration and extraordinary powers which were not offered to him. The PCB had earlier wanted to appoint former star pacer Shoaib Akhtar on the two posts but they couldn’t agree on a deal before shifting their attention to Younis, who led Pakistan to their maiden World T20 triumph in 2009 and retired from the game in 2017.
