Srinagar, Nov 9: At a time when the class 8th exam papers were allegedly out on streets and even on the social networking websites, the State Institute of Education (SIE) on Tuesday replaced the papers exclusively for Srinagar district as if only the City candidates were in know of the leaked lot.
While the candidates of other districts were given the allegedly leaked lot, the question papers were replaced only for the Srinagar candidates. Today was the last paper for Social Science.
But the replacement didn't come without inconvenience for the candidates.
The candidates at SP School complained that many of them had to wait for a hour because the centre ran short of question papers.
The superintending staff while confirming the complaint said they had to get the pending lot from an exam centre at Sonawar.
Eyebrows are being raised over the way the authorities have tackled the paper leakage allegations. This is despite the fact that the Education Minister Pirzada Muhammad Sayed is understood to have asked the officials to take serious action.
Last evening Greater Kashmir received several complaints that the Social Science paper was out and was even being circulated on the social networking websites.
For the second last paper, conducted on Sunday, the authorities had been further selective in the replacement of question papers as only some centres in the City were given the new lot while the rest at access to "leaked papers".
Interestingly, the new paper as per the attendants was not only "tough" but also had some mistakes and miss prints.
The students and the parent community raised a hue and cry over the issue.
The SIE admits that the papers were replaced on the apprehensions of paper leak. But it says the replacement of papers in the City was enough to plug the leakage.
It also claims to have registered a FIR with police station Soura in this regard. A government handout recently hailed the endeavour.
