Srinagar, Nov 9: USA-based renowned Kashmiri Interventional Cardiologist, Dr Fayaz Shawl, who arrived here today, would be delivering a lecture on "Interventional Cardiology: Present Status and Future Directions" at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura Saturday. Dr Shawl would also demonstrate the latest angioplasty techniques at SKIMS.
Presently holding the position of Clinical Professor Medicine at the George Washington University, USA and the Director Interventional Cardiology at the Washington Adventist Hospital, Dr Shawl is globally acclaimed for his contribution to the field of interventional cardiology. He is also the pioneer of a unique technique in interventional cardiology that is named after him as the Shawl Technique.
Dr. Shawl is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom, General Medical Council of the United Kingdom, the American Medical Association and American Heart Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Physicians, the American College of Angiology and The Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions.
Dr Shawl is planning to establish a state-of-the-art cardiology center in Srinagar under the aegis of Shawl Foundation launched by him recently. During his present visit, Dr Shawl will be donating stents and other cardiac equipment to the SKIMS for needy patients. He will be regularly visiting SKIMS cardiology unit to help the patients and the doctors there.
