The much-awaited registration of Aadhar cards has taken off in the City –left behind in the development –the country is reaping benefits of.
"The process of Biometrics of residents of Srinagar district based on National Population Registration (NPR) data linked with Adhaar cards was kick started at Gandhi Bhawan Kashmir University. The function was jointly inaugurated by Joint director census CS Sapru and Joint Commissioner SMC Bashir Ahmed Khan," an official handout said.
"The objective of the NPR is to create a comprehensive identity data base in the country with full identification and other details by registering each person in the country," it said.
"Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University Khursheed Ahmed Andrabi was the first person to be enrolled in Srinagar district… The enrolment agency that has been mandated by Government to collect data of the residents is M/S Chinar constructions," the handout added.
Joint Director Census CS Sapru said "biometrics enrolment has already been completed in 21 districts of Jammu and Kashmir state with 80 percent enrolments achieved."
