Srinagar, Oct 9: Despite directives from higher officials to remove encroachment over a canal in Hyder Pora locality, the Executive Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Division Srinagar has failed to comply the orders.
Sources told Greater Kashmir, after locals of Bagh-e-Hyder, Hyder Pora approached officials with grievance of encroachment coming up in the locality on the irrigation canal, a committed was constituted to verify the facts.
"Tehsildar South vide its order number TSS/OQ/2011/08-13 dated April 2, 2013 constituted a team for demarcation of Koul(canal)," said an official. He said the team submitted report revealing that the government land has been encroached upon by one of the retired officials.
Sources that the concerned Executive Engineer was reluctant to implement the official orders issued by Chief Engineer vide order number LA/EC/5632-33 dated June 22, 2013. The order, a copy which lies with Greater Kashmir, reads: "I have been directed to request you to exercise your powers under the provisions of J&K Water Regulation Management Act 2010 and remove the illegal encroachment identified by Revenue authorities with necessary assistance from concerned Administrative/Police authorities."
Locals said that they had approached concerned official, but "he paid no heed to our woes." Despite repeated attempts the concerned Executive Engineer could not be contacted for comments.
