Srinagar, Oct 9:  Poor power supply in this summer capital is even affecting the traffic signal system, the government admitted Tuesday when Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand responded to a query by MLC Vijay Bakaya.
"The matter has been taken up with the PDD for providing uninterrupted power supply through special feeder," Tara Chand said adding that erratic power supply was affecting the     traffic signal system.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the maintenance work has been allotted to a private agency. "The company M/S Onnyx electronics is responsible for smooth operation of the signal for a period of two years and in case of any defect reported the company has to repair the fault within a period of one day (maximum 24 hours) during the warranty period," Tara Chand said.
Experts fear that signals could face the worst during winters if the issue is not resolved with the PDD in time.
According to the information provided by the Deputy CM, a total cost incurred on the installation of traffic signal lights in Srinagar is Rs 208.17 lakhs.
