A team led by Municipal Magistrate, Srinagar Khurshid-ul-Islam Tuesday inspected various food establishments in the summer capital particularly in and around Parimpora Fruit Mandi.
"During the inspection, one of the shopkeepers was found selling a banned artificial fruit ripening product (Calcium Carbide) which is dangerous for health. Fruits contaminated by this artificial chemical cause severe health problem. Similarly, during inspection of an ice cream factory namely Delicious Ice-Cream, the team found the factory in unsanitary conditions with rusted equipment," an official communiqué said.
"The team immediately sealed both the shop and the ice-cream factory and produced challan in the Court of Municipal Magistrate, Srinagar," it said. The Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Hilal Ahmad and other Food Safety officers were also part of the team.
