Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, today directed the authorities of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to ensure the building permissions are given within 15 days under rules so that general public is not affected by the undue delays.

Dr Samoon said this while reviewing sanitation measures being taken by SMC in the summer capital. He asked SMC to strictly follow the building permission rules and issue permissions strictly under the act.

Dr Samoon called for proper disposal of solid waste in the Srinagar City and asked officials of SMC to find an alternative space for further disposal of waste in addition to Achan dumping site.

He asked the Commissioner SMC Bashir Ahmad Khan to take concerted efforts to make Srinagar city clean and ensure hygienic atmosphere.

Stressing on the need to segregate waste before its disposal, the Divisional Commissioner asked officials to distribute separate dustbins to the households for bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste so that it makes segregation easy.

The Divisional Commissioner directed the SMC to start sweeping and collecting garbage early in the morning to avoid inconvenience to people. On the occasion, Commissioner SMC informed the Divisional Commissioner that there are 300 vacancies of sweepers in the corporation and same will be filled soon.

Dr. Samoon also directed Commissioner SMC to conduct fortnightly meetings with the ward officers for effective functioning of the administration. He further directed SMC to launch special drive against encroachment of footpaths in the city.

Expressing concern over the use of polythene in Kashmir, the Divisional Commissioner called for taking concrete measures to deal with the issue. He also asked SMC to make all the street lights functional and use energy saver led lights for street lights.

Dr Samoon also interacted with ward officers during the meeting. He asked them to respond in a week to the complaints he received through toll free number 100 regarding their respective wards.
