A local court here has directed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar to register a case against a cop Ajaz Ahmad Malik who is accused in killing of Irfan Ahmad Pandit of Khanyar.
The court issued the directions after the wife of Pandit moved an application before Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Srinagar, pleading that police refused to register FIR against the accused cop and did not conduct any investigation in the matter.
In January, this year, police recovered Pandit's body in a Maruti car near Ghousia hospital.
Saika, wife of the deceased, pleaded before the court through her counsel Bashir Ahmad Bhat that her husband was last seen with the Aijaz Ahmad Malik of Koolipora Khanyar.
"Applicant approached the police station concerned for lodging of FIR, but the police for reasons best know to them have not registered the FIR against accused and nor conducted any investigation in the matter," reads the application.
"As the concerned police has refused to lodge the FIR and there are number of issues like last seen theory and mark of injury on the leg of the deceased which raises finger towards the involvement of the accused. Hence, SSP Srinagar is directed to lodge the FIR and hand over the investigation to any honest and competent person not below the rank of DSP as the accused is also a police personnel," the court said.
