On the call of joint resistance leadership, leaders and activists of various pro-freedom organisations staged a sit-in at at Press Enclave here against the "ill-treatment" meted out to Kashmiri prisoners languishing in various jails.
"Leaders from Hurriyat Conference (G), Hurriyat Conference (M) and JKLF gathered at Abi Guzar and marched towards Press Enclave. Chanting slogans in favor of Azadi and prisoners, the participants of the rally walked through the central market and reached Press Enclave where they staged a peaceful sit-in," the organizers said in a joint statement.
Sit-in was addressed by Hurriyat (G) leader Raja Meraj ud din Kalwal, JKLF leader Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and Hurriyat (M) leader Ghulam Nabi Zaki.
Terming the recent proposals of Home Ministry as "bullying Kashmiris", speakers said that :intimidations, inducements and other acts of oppression cannot suppress people who haves sacrificed thousands of people."
"Speakers said that dreaming of bullying a nation that has pledged to free itself by oppressive measures is only daydreaming. Speakers said that Home Ministry is threatening Kashmiris of dire consequences and we are told that our imams, our Masajid and Masjid committees will be penalized," the leaders said. "It is also being proposed that resistance leadership should be penalized through various measures, youth in resistance should be booked under PSA and unity among resistance camp be broken by some means."
The leaders alleged that revival of police SOG is also being proposed so that "more oppressive steps are taken against Kashmiris.' "Oppressive measures have not succeeded to break the will of Kashmiris in past and these will not succeed in breaking our resistance in future also. While condemning the inhuman treatment meted out to thousands of incarcerated Kashmiris, speakers said that thousands of Kashmiris are languishing in jails and police stations under PSA" said the statement.
"Speakers said that people who are being released by courts are being re-arrested and kept in police stations for months which is highly condemnable. They said despite all these harsh oppressive measures, people of J&K will never surrender and continue their sacred freedom movement till the achievement of the desired goal," it said.
The statement said that the JKLF leaders Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Muhammad Yasin Butt, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Siraj Ud Din Mir, Muhammad Sideeq Shah, professor Javed , Hurriyat Conference (M) leaders Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, Abdul Rashid Untoo, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Advocate Yasir Ahmad Dalal, Farooq Ahmad Sodagar ,Abdul Majid Wani , Hurriyat (G) leaders Meraj ud Din Kalwal, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Zaheer Abbas, Nisar Hussain Rather, Muhammad Yasin Ataie, Yaar Muhammad Khan, Imtiyaz Haider , Abdul Rashid Lone along with resistance leaders Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi and Firdous Ahmad Shah participated in the protest program.
