Shopkeepers of Lal Chowk have expressed concern of recent theft incident in which cash was looted from three shops in the area.
A group of shopkeepers said thieves had struck in three shops–Poshak Mahal, Sanaa and Erina—on the night intervening June 19 and 20, decamping with cash.
"On the fateful day, I was shocked to find locks of my shop broken and cash missing from counter," said Khursheed Ahmad Wani, proprietor of Poshak Mahal.
"During night, thieves had used sharp edged tools to break locks of shops. They decamped with cash but had not touched other valuable in these shops," the group of shopkeepers said.
The theft has created a sense of insecurity among shopkeepers. "It is ironical that such an incident occurred in commercial hub of Srinagar and fortified area," they said. "We appeal SSP Srinagar to direct the concerned police station to expedite probe into the matter and arrest the accused to restore sense of security in the area," they said.
"We have started investigation into the matter and intensified patrolling in the area," said SHO Kothibagh.
