VOK books 4 SMC officers for misusing official position

Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) on Thursday booked four officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for misusing their official position. 

"A joint surprise check conducted by this Organization revealed that the officers/officials  of SMC Srinagar viz chief enforcement officer SMC,  Farooq Ahmad Shah enforcement officer SMC, Mujeeb Hussain Sheikh, ward officer 22 Karan Nagar Srinagar, Ab. Rashid Bhat then building inspector  SMC have by abuse of their official position and in connivance  with the beneficiaries  namely Muhammad Yasin Beigh, Muhammad Sadiq Beigh, Najam-ud-din  Beigh and Showkat Ahmad Beigh  son of  Muhammad Amin Beigh of Karan Nagar  and Khalida Begum  wife of Sona-Ullah Thakur of Karan Nagar allowed raising of  illegal structures without having  requisite building permission from the  competent  authority, and also  allowed the  violation of land use by way of allowing  commercial activity in residential area in gross violation to BOCA rules and regulations," VOK said in a statement.

"The omissions and commissions on the part of the above mentioned officers/officials of SMC Srinagar and the beneficiaries attract the provisions of offences punishable U/s 5(1) (d) r/w 5(2) P.C Act Svt. 2006, Section 120-B, RPC and accordingly case FIR No. 20/2017 P/S VOK was registered and further investigation taken up," it said.

"During the course of investigation, search warrant was obtained from the competent Court of law and accordingly searches were carried at the residential houses of the accused persons in association with the executive magistrates provided by deputy commissioner Srinagar/Baramulla during which documents pertaining to Bank deposits, FDR's, Insurance policies, sale deeds of land, and other revenue documents were recovered and seized,"  it said. 

The statement said two sale deeds, a partnership deed of land, building permission No.172 of 2001, one FDR, seven vouchers of gold purchase, seven pass books and three cheque books and ATM cards were recovered from the house of chief enforcement officer SMC

VOK said three cash certificates worth 22,84,672, three insurance policies, pass book along with cheque books and other allied documents were recovered from the house of Farooq Ahmad, enforcement officer SMC. 

It said cash certificate worth 25,000, four insurance policies and jewellery bills worth 2,16,950 and other allied documents were recovered from the house of Abdul Rashid, building inspector SMC.
