‘SP school should not be remembered for frequent closures’

The SP higher secondary school in heart of summer capital here has remained in news for protests since 2016 uprising.

At the school's annual day function on Wednesday, the education minister Syed Altaf Bukhari after getting overwhelmed by colorful performance by the students made a passionate appeal to them to "create an impact through their contribution to education rather than being remembered for forcing closure of their institution."

"After watching the excellent performance by these students, for me something was going in my mind. Are they same kids about whom I am everyday told that we need to close this school," Bukhari said in his address.

"There are moments when emotions overtake us and i know what is happening around… your emotions are hurt. But how to express your emotions that is more important," he said.

He said the students of SP school should not be remembered for having kept this school closed for maximum number of days.

"But for having contributed to society for better causes. Having said this, I don't mean you don't have to protest. You have a right to protest, but you need to change the way to protest. You can protest on anything which you think is injustice," he said.

He said as long as students protest within the premises of schools and within the parameters "no policeman can enter the campus and detain them for holding demonstrations. I was emotionally drained when students of this school were taken to police station earlier."
