In a major embarrassment for the government, a legislator of the ruling PDP on Wednesday slammed the government for delay in finalizing the Master Plan of Srinagar
During the question hour, PDP MLA from Srinagar Muhammad Ashraf Mir came down heavily on minister for Housing and Urban Development department Nirmal Singh over government's "lethargic approach" in preparing the Master Plan for Srinagar ."There has been inordinate in finalizing the master plan. Why you failed to finalize it in the past three years? Is not this mockery of the system?" asked Mir, who represents Sonawar assembly segment of Srinagar.
He said people of Srinagar are facing immense problems due to delay in finalizing the master plan.
"It is lifeline of our city. The public services are getting affected in Srinagar due to the delay," he said.
Responding to the legislator, Nirmal Singh said the concern of the lawmaker is genuine.
He said Master Plan is in final stage and a committee has been constituted to scrutinize objections/ suggestions received from the public over the draft Master Plan.
"The draft Master Plan has been prepared by chief town planner (Kashmir) in consultation with the stakeholders within and outside the State," he said, adding the Master Plan was put in public domain between May to October last year for receiving suggestions/ objections from the general public.
Unsatisfied with the minister's reply, Mir accused the government of resorting to diversionary tactics.
"You should tell the House when you will finalize the Master Plan," Mir demanded.
