Admin bans circulation of photos, videos of relief distribution on social media

In continuation to instructions issued earlier this month, district magistrate, Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary who is also Chairman District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued instructions for further regulation of operations of NGOs involved in relief efforts in the summer capital.

Further regulation of operations of the NGOs comes in thewake of declaration of 14 areas as containment zones after several positivecases of COVID19 were reported these areas.

   

The circular containing the additional set of instructionsstates that areas declared as containment zones will have strictly restrictedentry. It states that only designated essential and emergency servicesofficials will be allowed to enter these areas in strict compliance with allstated guidelines and precautions.

It states that operations of NGOs and distribution of reliefitems in these as well as other areas will be in strict coordination with theNGO Cell of the DDMA.

It states that two KAS officers along with the supportingstaff have been deputed for the purpose to ensure strict adherence to allguidelines issued from time to time.

The circular states that Additional District Magistrate (SQ)will keep details of all families or persons earmarked to the NGOs forprovision of relief items and ensure equitable distribution in all areas andavoidance of duplication thereof.

It directs that neither government agencies nor NGOs mustcirculate photographs or videos of distribution of food or other relief itemson social media.

The Srinagar administration has taken around 30 NGOs onboardfor its COVID19 related efforts for reaching out to and supporting residents ofthe district.
