Amid public outcry, DSEK reinstates suspended teachers

Amid public outcry,  the directorate of school education Kashmir (DSEK) has reinstated the teachers who were suspended on second day of Eid.

The teachers were suspended during the visit of chiefeducation officer (CEO) Srinagar to the government middle school Shalteng inzone Batamaloo.

   

An official told Greater Kashmir that the order to reinstatethe suspended teachers was issued as the move evoked massive criticism againstthe department for “harassing” teachers in education department during Eidcelebrations.

Earlier, the CEO Srinagar issued an order stating that theteachers were placed under suspension for unauthorised absence from schools.The department had decided to issue charge sheet separately.

The move however triggered debate on social media andnetizens termed the suspension as “harassment” of teachers by thedepartment.

A video of CEO Srinagar had also gone viral wherein he wasseen visiting a school on second day of Eid and questioning teachers for theirabsence from the institution.

Also, a day ahead of Eid over half a dozen teachers wassuspended by the director school education Kashmir at Habbak and Gulab areas oncity outskirts.

The decision also evoked criticism against the departmentafter the teachers claimed that they had submitted their leave for second halfon that day.

Chief Education Officer (CEO) Srinagar Naseer Ali Malikconfirmed that the teachers who were suspended on Arfa and second day of Eidwill be reinstated.

“The issue has been resolved and the teachers who weresuspended on Arfa and Eid have been reinstated,” CEO Srinagar said.

He said the department is the custodian of teachers as wellstudents enrolled in the government schools.

“But there has to be proper monitoring of schools to ensurethat students are taught properly,” CEO added.
