Writhing in pain at SMHS hospital here, an 18-year old student, injured during protest outside Nawa kadal Higher Secondary School is in a state of shock. Khushboo of Noorbagh, Qamarwari here was rushed to SMHS Hospital with a head injury, received at Sekidafar.
For doctors, the scene of the injured girl with blood oozing out of her forehead was a reminder of Monday's events, when 19-year old Iqra was admitted to hospital with a severe head injury.
A class 12 student Khushboo looked on horrified, as doctors evaluated the extent of her head injury at Surgical Emergency Ward of SMHS Hospital.
"Her condition is stable but we will keep her under observation for some time," a doctor quipped. The words comfort Khushboo and she begun to narrate how she was injured. "We, the girls from Nawakdal College, were protesting. The forces resorted to shelling which was responded to by stone pelting by some protesting boys, who were nearby. We ran out of the area where these clashes were taking place. Soon, when we had reached near Sekidafar, I felt a shooting pain in my forehead. I touched my head and saw blood all over my hands. I don't remember what happened thereafter."
Doctors at SMHS Hospital, who had examined Khushboo's wound before stitching it, said that Khushboo was hit by a "hard, round object". "It could be a marble. There is a deep trauma by a small, hard and round object, quite possibly a marble," a doctor in Trauma Theatre of SMHS Hospital said. "She is lucky that it has not hit her eye or caused a fracture," he added.
Moments later, Khushboo, surrounded by her family, is not able to control her tears. As her family inquires from her about how she got injured, Khushboo responds: "I don't not how I was hit. I just felt shooting pain. No stones were being pelted where I was hit," she said. Her mother laments that last year too, Khushboo had underwent a "major liver surgery". "My unfortunate daughter!" she said amid tears.
Khushboo is the eldest daughter of Gulam Muhammad Kuchay, a driver. He has two more daughters and a son aged 15.
Earlier this week, Iqra was rushed to hospital with a depression fracture in her skull caused by a stone, which required emergency surgical intervention.
A 15 year old Palhalan Pattan resident, identified as Hashim was also brought to SMHS Hospital for treatment on Thursday. His left eye had been injured by pellets.
