Army pays tribute to soldier who died after falling into ravine in Uri

Army on Monday paid a tribute to Naik Uttam Singh who diedafter falling into a deep ravine in the frontier Uri town in north Kashmir’sBaramulla district on the weekend.

In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen BS Raju, ChinarCorps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the soldier on behalf of the proudnation, said an army spokesman.

   

Late Naik Uttam Singh was leading a patrol along the Line ofControl, when he slipped and fell down a deep ravine into a rivulet. He wasrescued by his team, provided immediate first aid and evacuated to nearestField Hospital, but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries.

Naik Uttam Singh (34), had joined the Army in 2005. Hebelonged to Village Gunge Mau of Musafir Khana Tehsil, Sultanpur District inUttar Pradesh and is survived by his wife and two sons.

His mortal remains were taken for last rites to his nativeplace, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours, said thespokesman.

“In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity withthe bereaved family and remains committed to their dignity and wellbeing,” headded.
