Srinagar, Nov 8: Amid an increase in the COVID positivity rate in the summer capital, the government today said testing would be intensified and the second dose of vaccination will be expedited to avert the situation from deterioration.

An order issued by the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir on Monday said booths would be set up at weddings, public places and religious gatherings to help in sampling at these crowded places. This, the order said, would help in the implementation of COVID19 appropriate behavior. All the officials have been directed to formulate a plan and share the same with the Directorate.

In the past two weeks, Kashmir division, especially Srinagar, has been recording a high number of cases and the positive percentage has also increased many decimal points. The death toll in Kashmir division has also witnessed a rise over the past one week.

Earlier, the COVID19 restrictions order issued by the Department of Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation and Reconstruction directed all the deputy commissioners of J&K to ensure that there was no drop in testing and that the available Rapid Antigen Test and RT-PCR tests were adequately utilized. The DCs were also ordered to focus on the positivity rates of medical blocks and institute micro-containment zones in case any rise in cases was noticed in any of the blocks.
