CWC comes to rescue of minor girl

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has admitted a minor girl from north Kashmir, abused by a youth from her village, in a hospital here. The accused has been arrested after the CWC registered a complaint with police.

The 14-year-old girl was sexually abused by the accused and six months later she came to know about her pregnancy. “The child care helpline forwarded the case to CWC Kupwara and we took him to sub district hospital and got her medical examination done,” said Azad Hussain Peer, chairperson CWC Kupwara.

He said at the same time they did counseling of the girl and her parents who were disturbed after learning that their daughter was pregnant. “The girl was also in lot of stress, and depressed; and her health condition was not good,” said Peer

Later the CWC approached the police which lodged the case against the accused who was later arrested under POSCO Act. To provide stress free atmosphere to the girl, the CWC shifted her to Srinagar.

“She is properly taken care and we have ensured that she gets proper treatment …she has completed her nine months of pregnancy,” said Azad.

In December last year, a minor girl from Budgam delivered a baby and later abandoned her. The matter was brought before the CWC Srinagar which later shifted the newborn for treatment to GB Pant hospital.
