District Election Officer (DEO) Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Monday directed the agencies concerned to ensure setting up of all basic minimum facilities at all polling stations across the district within a week.
The DEO who was speaking ina meeting convened to review the facilities at polling stations instructed forsetting up all basic facilities by March 18.
Superintending engineerspower development department, roads & buildings and public healthengineering, chief education officer Srinagar were among other officers whoattended the meeting.
The departments wereinstructed to set up ramps for voters with special needs, electricity withlighting and heating, water supply, toilets among other facilities at all 857polling stations to be set up at 407 polling locations.
MeanwhileChoudhary instructed the departments concerned and executing agencies tostrictly adhere to Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines with regard toexecution of developmental works.
He was speaking at aseparate meeting convened to discuss execution of works during the Model Codeof Conduct (MCC) which came into effect with announcement of dates forparliament polls on Sunday.
Choudhary impressed uponthe concerned that only those works which have already been started can beundertaken during the model code of conduct.
Hestressed that all other works including those which have been approved ortendered or acquired material for but have not been started on the ground needauthorisation for execution.
The departments were alsotold that any mega or vital developmental projects that might be due to betaken up in the district in the next two to three months during the electionsperiod will have to be taken to special committee constituted under headship ofthe chief secretary which will then seek approval for their execution from theECI.
The departments were askedto ensure strict adherence to guidelines concerning the subject throughout theperiod of the MCC which ends two days after the election results are declared.
