Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran was injured when two councilors allegedly threw an object at him during councilors’ meet at SMC headquarters here.
He was rushed to police hospital here with an injury near his right eyebrow. Speaking to media after the assault, Imran said that “i am being targeted due to my stand against corruption and anti-BJP stand.”
“I was in councilors meet when two corporators arrived during question answer session and started arguing. They threw some object at me and i was injured. I have already given the name of the accused corporators to police,” he said.
“I am being targeted because I am exposing BJP backed people who are running Hindutva agenda here. I won’t let that happen, I won’t budge to any sort of pressure tactics”, he said.
SHO Shaheed Gunj, Parvaiz Ahmed said that the incident will be investigated.
“We have received application for FIR. Due course of action will follow in the case,” he said.
“The Deputy Mayor has lacerated wound near his right eyebrow. He received a stitch and we conducted eye checkup which is normal. He was discharged after treatment,” said medical superintendent Police hospital, Dr Bilal.
To mention this is the second such controversy surrounding the SMC in a span of few weeks. Earlier this month a female corporator had accused the mayor of “harassment”. In another controversy, the SMC employees went for strike for several days to protest against assault on their colleague–affecting garbage removal in the summer capital.
