Police arrested a drug peddler at Qamarwari here and recovered eight kilograms of charas from his possession.
Acting on an information, a police party of district police laid a naka in Qamarwari area. "During naka checking, a sumo bearing registration number JK05A-4325 driven by Muhammad Shafi Chopan son of Habib-ul-Lah Chopan resident of Devar Lolab was intercepted. On checking the vehicle, about eight kilograms of charas was recovered," police spokesperson said in a statement.
"A case FIR number 297/17 under section 8/20 NDPS has been registered and further investigation of the case is in progress. More arrests and recoveries are expected," the spokesperson said.
"People of district Srinagar have expressed their gratitude to DGP S.P. Vaid and IGP Kashmir Munir Khan who have been personally monitoring the drive against this menace. They have also appreciated the role of police for launching effective campaign against drug peddlers and sale of psychotropic substances which are adversely affecting and ruining the future of the youth of the valley," the spokesperson added.
