A massive blaze engulfed half a dozen houses and a godown at Maharja Gunj in Downtown Srinagar on Saturday.
An eye witness said that the fire appeared at a house today morning and soon spread to other five adjacent houses and a godown.
Reports said that seven to eight fire tenders, pressed into the service immediately, doused the flames. They said that property worth lakhs of rupees was damaged in the fire.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, said an official.
