Scores of traders of Batamaloo here, who were affected by devastating floods in 2014, Wednesday staged protest against what they said bouncing of relief cheques.

The traders raised slogans against the government and decried "delaying tactics" in paying them relief.

"As per directive of authorities, we several times submitted our 16 digit bank account numbers in concerned Tehsil offices. Ironically, despite passing of nearly three years, not a single penny has been transferred into our accounts," the protesters said.

The protesters said the district administration had issued cheques of Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 in 2015 to the affected traders, but the amount is yet to be credited in their bank accounts.

"Around 3,300 cheques are yet to be cashed. We fail to understand why we are denied compensation even almost three years after the deluge," they said.
