Urban Forestry Division of Forest Department Monday organized a plantation drive at the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Media Complex here today.
The drive was part of national initiative for enhancing thegreen cover across the country, an official spokesman said.
He said, on the occasion,various saplings of Deodar and Kail were planted by the officials of the Forestdepartment.
The drive was held under the supervision of DivisionalForest Officer (DFO), Syed Nazir Abid and other senior officials from theForest department.
Speaking on the occasion, DFO Syed Nazir Abid informed thatunder the “Green J&K” program, Forest department, from its given target of one crore saplings, has sofar planted 32 lakh saplings of variousvarieties of trees across J&K.
He said by the end of this month, the department will ensure that 18 lakh more saplings are planted to take the total number to 50 lakhs.
