Srinagar, Nov 18: Residents of Green Avenue Sector A Peerbagh have urged the SMC authorities to remove garbage and grass from an abandoned plot in the area as it has become safe haven for stray dogs.

A delegation from the area said that the vacant plot is full of garbage and overgrown grass.

“The said plot due to its thick and inaccessible vegetation growth has become safe haven for stray dogs. Besides drug addicts visit the plot in evening hours,” they said.

“The matter was brought to the notice of concerned authorities many times but to no avail. A few months ago leopard paw marks were observed in the plot. The wildlife team also visited the spot and confirmed the presence of a leopard from the paw marks. The concerned range officer served a notice to the owner for immediate removal of thick vegetation growth and proper maintenance of the said plot. But so far no action has been taken,” they said.

“We appeal the SMC Commissioner to direct the concerned officials to look into the matter,” they said.
