Governor inaugurates final phase of Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover

The Governor Satya Pal Malik inaugurated final phase of Jehangir Chowk- Rambagh flyover here on Saturday.

While lauding the executing agencies, Malik said completionof Jehangir Chowk-Alochi Bagh limb of the flyover will decongest traffic andconsiderably reduce travel time from airport to the city centre and vice-versa.

   

He said it will also provide relief to the businesscommunity across the busy stretch between Jehangir Chowk and Rambagh.

The inauguration of the last phase of the flyover took placeafter over five and a half years after work on the prestigious project startedin October 2013, and over a year after the first phase of the flyover wasthrown open in May last year.

The completion and opening of this phase of the flyover isexpected to provide relief to commuters traveling across the busy stretchbetween Jehangir Chowk and Rambagh.

Almost a month ago the second phase of the flyover, fromRambagh to Alochi Bagh, was thrown open after several hiccups.

The 2.4 kilometre flyover with six access ramps, includingthose at Jehangir Chowk, Gogji Bagh, Alochi Bagh, Rambagh, Natipora andBarzulla, is expected to substantially decongest city traffic and reduce traveltime between Jehangir Chowk and Rambagh from about 45 minutes to around fiveminutes.

Khurshid Ahmed Ganai and K Skandan, Advisors to Governor;BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary; Umang Narula, Financial Commissioner toGovernor; Rohit Kansal, Principal Secretary Planning, Development andMonitoring; Baseer Khan, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Shahid IqbalChoudhary, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and several other officers were presenton the occasion.
