The residents of Dargah Hazratbal on Saturday slammed Power Development department authorities for resorting to unscheduled and long power cuts in the metered area.

A delegation of local residents told Greater Kashmir that despite areas in Dargah Hazratbal being full metered, the department is resorting to unscheduled cuts "which has made our living miserable."

"We don't see power for even five hours a day," said the delegation members. "As per schedule announced by the PDD itself, the cuts in our locality have to be not more than four hours a day. But we are not being provided power for even four hours at a stretch."

"The PDD has miserably failed on ground. This is the worst-ever power cuts we have seen in a decade," the residents said. "Our local MLA also seems to be helpless despite seeking votes from us during the Assembly elections. We won't tolerate this and shall hit streets if power situation in the area doesn't improve."

On Saturday, the residents said, the power in the area was snapped at 11.40 and not restored till 5 pm for unknown reasons. "This is the situation with us almost daily," they said.

Despite repeated attempts, no PDD official was available for comments.
