IGP Traffic holds meet with stakeholders

Inspector General of Police (Traffic), Basant Rath, on Friday said that he will ensure end to traffic mess in the summer capital.

The IGP held meeting with officers of his wing, transporters, private school association, besides checking vehicles at four places in uptown areas of city including Hyderpora and Barzulla.

“I assured them that I will ensure end to traffic mess in near future. I also assured them to end corruption in traffic department,” the IGP told Greater Kashmir.

To mention, Traffic mismanagement continues to irk commuters in Srinagar. The places where most of the traffic jams are frequently witnessed include Jehangir Chowk, Budshah Chowk, Residency Road, Regal Chowk, TRC, Polo View and Ram Bagh Bridge, Jawahar Nagar, Mehjoor Bridge, Batamaloo and Qamarwari. The random parking of vehicles also hampers the traffic movement in city.

“I also meet representatives of private schools and asked them ply buses according to stipulated guidelines,” the IGP said.

Last month, Traffic police had issued an advisory for plying of school buses in Jammu and Kashmir, asking them to strictly follow the stipulated guidelines.
