JKSJA organises program on Negotiable Instruments Act

Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy organised a one-day orientation program on ‘Trial of complaints under section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act’ here today.

Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Chairman Governing CommitteeJKSJA was chief guest on the occasion. In his speech, Justice Magray gave anoverview of the Negotiable Instruments Act. He said the aim of the program wasto sensitise the judicial magistrates of Kashmir province about various facetsof the Act and learn from the experience of resource persons.

   

“Justice delivery system is a challenge in changingsocieties and updated judicial education will help them (magistrates) indelivering justice.  Such programs whichwill help our budding judiciary to gain knowledge and share their ownexperiences on one platform,” he added.

Mohammad Shafi Khan retired District and Sessions judgepresented an overview of provisions of the Act dealing with Trial of Complaintsof “cheque dishonor”. He elaborated upon the provisions of law dealing withsuch cases.

A technical session was also held which was chaired byMohammad Yousuf Wani, District and Sessions Judge, Ganderbal. He talked aboutprocedural and jurisdictional aspects of cheque dishonour matters.

Later, a panel discussion was held on compounding ofoffences and other incidental issues. Director State Judicial Academy, RajeevGupta, conducted the proceedings of the program.
