‘Lift garbage in and around GB Pant Hospital without further delay’

The High Court on Friday directed Chief Executive Officer Cantonment Board to ensure lifting of garbage dumped in and around the G B Pant Children Hospital here without any further delay.   

A division bench of Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey and JusticeTashi Rabstan also directed the Board ensure disposal of the waste in terms ofthe Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and file compliance.

   

The court also asked Medical Superintendent, G B.PantChildren Hospital to file his report about the steps taken for ensuring properhygiene in and around the Hospital.

The direction came after Advocate Nadeem Qadri informed thecourt that heaps of garbage is lying outside the G B Pant Hospital.  He told the court that non-compliance of theWaste Management Disposal Rules has resulted in deposition of garbage outsidethe hospital.  “It is not only hazardousbut dangerous for the life of the children who are approaching the hospital fortreatment,” he said. 

Advocate Qadri as amicus curie was making submissions in thePIL filed by Environment Policy Group (EPG) seeking directions for solid wastemanagement in J&K.

 “We direct ChiefExecutive Officer Cantonment Board  whois stated to be managing control of the area with reference to ensuring properhygiene  and other sanitary  facility, to ensure lifting of thegarbage/waste which is  stated to bedumped  in and around  the G.B.Pant Children Hospital without anyfurther delay” the court said  The Courtalso asked  S A Makroo, who isappearing  on behalf of Chief ExecutiveOfficer Cantonment Board to file response and compliance  of the direction by or before next date ofhearing.
