Shahr-e-Khaas areas Saturday observed a complete shutdown on the call of joint resistance leadership.
However, private and public transport plied on the roads.
In Nowhatta, all commercial establishments remained closed throughout the day while thin transport plied on roads, witnesses said.
Reports and witnesses said that shutdown call received mixed responses in civil lines' areas with considerable number of private and public transport plying on roads.
Few shops remained open at Hari Singh High Street, Jahangir Chowk, MA Road, Residency Road, Regal Chowk, Polo View, Dalgate, Sonwar, Pantha Chowk, Rambagh, Sanat Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh, Bemina, Qamarwari, HMT and other places.
As senior police official said that situation by and large remained peaceful in Srinagar. "There was minor protest at Peerbagh by the family members of slain youth Owais Bashir Malik. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere," he added.
