Pesky power cuts, damaged water supply line irk Zafran colony residents

Residents of Zafran Colony, Pantha Chowk are up in arms against the authorities for failing to provide regular power supply and repair damaged water supply lines. They have threatened to block the highway if authorities fail to address their problems at earliest.

Muhammad Shafi Rather, president of local area committee, said that PDD authorities must follow power curtailment schedule in the area and clarify whether the area is metered. “The entire area has been metered but we hardly get any power supply,” he said. Rahter said that they met officials concerned on several occasion but to no avail.

He said representatives of all major five masjids of the area met PDD authorities concerned and took up the matter of long and unscheduled power cuts to the area. “But they (authorities) expressed helplessness saying that power supply schedule is regulated from power grid,” Rather said.

Hilal Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Zafran Colony said despite paying electricity bills on time, the area witnesses frequent power outages.

Seconding Bhat, Lateef Ahmed Mir, another resident said they hardly get few hours of power supply. “The entire area is metered and we pay our bills regularly but we hardly get electricity. During evening hours, there is power breakdown after every ten minutes,” Mir said.

He said the damaged pipeline in the area was creating problem in peoples’ movement. “The constant leakage in the water pipes has damaged the main road. Every time PHE employees repair the pipes, there is a leakage the very next day,” Mir alleged. H said if authorities fail to address the “genuine issues of the area”, people won’t hesitate to block the highway to press for their demands.
