Rains cause heavy waterlogging in Srinagar as SMC workers’ strike enters 2nd day

Several city areas on Wednesday remained water-logged causing immense hardships to commuters and the pedestrians as the field staff of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation continued their strike on second consecutive day.

The strike by the field employees of the civic body has hit all the essential civic services including dewatering process.    

   

Fresh snowfall and rains began today morning at many places across the valley including summer capital Srinagar, causing water-logging at various places. 

Meanwhile, mounds of stinking garbage have piled up in many areas of the city due to the strike.

SMC chief sanitation officer Muhammad Akbar Sofi said that the matter is being resolved between protesting employees and the administrative department.

“We expect the matter would be resolved by this evening,” he said while admitting suspension of work by employees has hit health and hygiene of the public. 

The protesting employees under the banner of SMC coordination committee are demanding resolution to the issues related to departmental promotions and  disbursing salary of the consolidated employees by online mode (from internal resources).
