SMC begins special sanitation drive

In the run up to Eid-ul-Adha, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Saturday launched special sanitation drive at major masjids and shrines in the summer capital. 

The drive will also focus in repairing defunct street lights and de-silting of drains and cleaning grounds for Eid prayers. Hopper vehicles, sweeping machines, robots were pressed into service while lime powder, fumigation and other disinfectants products were also used.

   

The lanes and bylanes leading to major shrines, masjids and Eidgahs are also being sanitized. SMC commissioner Peerzada Hafizullah issued directions for making special arrangements for sanitation, street lights and repairing of defunct drains in view of upcoming festival.

The commissioner along with chief sanitation officer Muhammad Akbar Sofi Saturday toured the various areas in Srinagar especially major shrines and Masjids to take the firsthand account of ongoing drive. The commissioner issued directions to health officer to conduct special marketing checking to ensure quality products are sold to shoppers.
