SMC gears up to launch anti polythene drive in the city

Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday has decided to launch anti polythene drive in the city.

An official of SMC said drive will include surprise checks at city markers and its men will also encourage buyers to biodegradable bags this festival.

   

The decision to launch this drive was taken in a meeting, he added.

The government under SRO 45  has banned manufacture, stocking, distribution, sale and use of polythene carry bags, plastic sheets or like, cover made of plastic sheet, plastic packaging and multi-layered packing less than 50 microns in thickness within the territorial limits of  the state.

Meanwhile, SMC commissioner Riyaz Ahmed toured city areas to take stock of sanitation where major religious gatherings will take place on Eid ul Fitr.
