Srinagar Dec 3: Scores of specially-abled persons on Friday staged protest here to press for resolution of their long-pending demands.
The protest was held to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The protestors assembled under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association (JKHA) at Press Enclave here and raised pro-justice slogans.
Abdul Rasheed Bhat president of the Association demanded that the Disability Act-2016 should be implemented in J&K.
“Successive governments have failed to take welfare measures for the physically challenged persons in J&K.
“Offering us Scooties or tricycles won’t help, there are qualified youth among us who are trained from ITI. We want Jobs for unemployed physically challenged persons. We are just receiving financial help of Rs 500 which is a cruel joke,” the protectors said.
The protestors appealed to LG administration to take immediate welfare measures for them and also meet their long-pending demands they have been raising for decades now.
