‘Srinagar turned into city of foot-bridges’

Former Chief Minister and working president of National Conference, Omar Abdullah, on Sunday slammed the government for traffic mess in summer capital and “turning it into a city of foot-bridges.”

This was the first time that any legislator spoke about problems faced by people in the summer capital during the ongoing budget session.

Speaking in the House during Motion of Thanks on the Governer’s address, Omar came down heavily on government for constructing foot-bridges in Srinagar.

“You have failed to control Srinagar city. You have kept only one motorable bridge in Srinagar while all other bridges have been converted into foot bridges,” he said

“Zero bridge was for small vehicles, but you converted it into footbridge. We planned to construct another bridge near Presentation Convent to reduce traffic rush near Radio Kashmir office, but it has been converted into foot bridge,” he said.

He said the present government has installed new traffic lights which are yet to be made functional. “The flyover you inaugurated in Jammu was given by previous alliance. You have just cut the ribbon of already initiated projects during your tenure,” he said.
