SSP Srinagar donates Rs 1 lakh to nonagenarian robbed in Old city

Srinagar, Nov 14: In a noble gesture, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Chaudhary has paid Rs one lakh from his pocket to a 90-year-old street food vendor, who was robbed on Saturday evening in the old city, news agency KNS reported.

As per the report, Abdul Rahman, a roadside street food seller, was thrashed by some burglars in Bohri Kadal last evening who snatched Rs 1 lakh sixty thousand from him, which he had saved for his last rites.

Rahman lives alone in his home in the locality and sells street food to earn a livelihood.

Seeing the plight of the old man, SSP Srinagar decided to pay from his pocket to him what robbers have stolen from him till the police is able to get hold of the robbers, the KNS report said.

SSP Sandeep Chaudhary told KNS that when he saw the man’s video on the Internet, he “could not bear the helplessness the old man was facing at that time”.

“So, I decided to help him and give him one lakh from my own pocket till the burglars are caught,” the SSP said.

He said that “helping a person who works tirelessly just to earn a penny is itself a service to humanity”.

Police have registered an FIR and investigation has been put on the fast track. “We showed him the pictures of some suspects yesterday, but he could not identify anyone. The investigation is on,” he said.
