Stray dogs on prowl in Lal Chowk

Presence of large number of stray dogs in city’s commercial hub Lal Chowk poses risk to pedestrians.

Several delegations of aggrieved commuters said that Lal Chowk and its adjoining areas are dotted with stray dogs particularly during evenings. “Due to presence of dozens of  stray dogs at Ghanta Ghar, Regal Chowk and Polo View, it is difficult to even walk,” they said. “SMC has failed to check the menace of stray dogs,” they said.

To mention, the Jammu and Kashmir government last month said 30,711 dog bite cases have been reported in Srinagar during the last six years.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Asiea Naqash told the Legislative Council that 30,711 dog bite cases were registered at an anti-rabies clinic at the SMHC hospital in Srinagar from 2012-13 to 2017-18 up to September.
