Traders protest against lack of sanitation at Regal Chowk

Scores of shopkeepers of Regal Chowk and Residency Road Thursday staged protest resenting lack of sanitation at Regal Chowk.

due to ongoing construction of drainage system in the area.

   

The shopkeepers assembled at Regal Chowk and staged protest.”We have taken up the matter with concerned authorities and urged them toremove mud and dust in front of our shops. But our pleas have fallen on deafears,” they said.

Farhan Kitab, a local trader who was part of protest saidthat under construction project is executed by Srinagar Municipal Corporationand has been abandoned time and again.

He added that construction has resulted in choking of theexisting surface drain. “The problem has been compounded as the work on theproject goes on for few days and then stops for several weeks,” he said.

“Recently, the work on this project was restored. Afterworking on it for few days, it was again abandoned,” he said.

Later, protestors dispersed off peacefully after concernedofficials assured to redress their complaints.

SMC commissioner Khurshid Ahmad Sanaie said teams have beendeputed to clear mud and dust from area. “We will complete drainageconstruction at Regal Chowk within 20 days,” he added.
