VC KU inaugurates webinar lecture series

Vice Chancellor (VC) University of Kashmir (KU), Prof Talat Ahmad on Thursday inaugurated a webinar lecture series, organised by Department of Chemistry, aimed at training research students and faculty on writing research proposals.

In his inaugural address, Prof Ahmad said despite unfavorable circumstances due to ongoing COVID19 crises, the University has continued normal functioning through online platforms and has done exceptionally well in terms of getting new research grants and publication of research results in the highest ranking journals.

The VC informed the audience that the University has been awarded Centre of Excellence in Earth Science Department in the area of glaciology and Department of Biodiversity. He said most of the science departments, including Department of Chemistry were doing exceptionally well in terms of research and publications.

While addressing scholars and principle investigators of various projects, Prof Ahmad laid emphasis on knowing the art of writing good research proposals for grants and appreciated the efforts directed at organizing such webinar lectures aimed at training research students and faculty for writing good research proposals.

The keynote speaker, Prof Sandeep Verma, Secretary, SERB-DST, New Delhi and Proffesor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur gave a detailed presentation on the theme "Research Projects: Conceptualization to Implementation".

The lecture was followed by an interactive session with the participants, which included faculty members from various University departments and Colleges, principle investigators of various projects and research scholars of various science departments.

During his lecturer, Prof Verma explained the key requirement of writing a successful research project for grants, from conceiving a research idea to its formulation and presentation and successful implementation, which could be convincing for funding bodies like SERB-DST and the peer group experts in the Project Selection Committees.
