Waterlogging in city areas

Due to incessant rains coupled with defunct drainage system, several areas of the summer capital were water-logged.

Vehicular movement was hampered in morning due towater-logging at Regal Chowk, Exhibition Crossing, Maulana Azad Road, ResidencyRoad, Samandar Bagh and Munwarabad.

   

“It is ironical that despite tall claims, authoritieshave failed to put in place proper dewatering system and efficient drainagefacilities,” said Abdul Hamid a commuter pointing toward waterlogged roadat Regal Chowk.

Meanwhile, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) in astatement said started de-watering process in various water-logged areas in thesummer capital.

SMC Commissioner Khurshid Ahmad Sanai today took stock ofde-watering exercise in the city from Tuesday evening.

In a statement SMC spokesperson the Commissioner visitedvarious places including Regal Chowk, Jehangir Chowk, Lal Chowk, Magarmal Baghand Batamaloo.

It said following reports of water logging, the SMCcommissioner took a review meeting on dewatering progress after extensive fieldvisits at different working stations.

Commissioner directed the concerned team to keep dewateringstations fully operational mode. 

“Our men and machines are working constantly to ensurethat people don’t face any inconvenience due to rain water,” Sanai said.

The SMC has in put in place 80 pumping stations and 115mobile pumping units, the statement said.
