Webinar on adult Immunisation conducted by GMC Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 20: On the occasion of World Immunisation Day, a webinar was organised by Government Medical College Srinagar. The webinar was coordinated and conducted by the Department of Community Medicine with Departments of Medicine, Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Paediatrics of Government Medical College Srinagar and SMO WHO NPSP Kashmir and Ladakh.

The webinar was inaugurated by Prof.Samia Rashid, principal and dean, GMC Srinagar.

   

Dr S Muhammad Salim Khan, Professor and HOD Community Medicine gave the keynote and emphasized on national policy on adult immunisation in addition to universal immunisation programmes among children and pregnant women.

Dr. Ruqia Quansar, lecturer of Community Medicine and organising secretary gave an overview of adult immunisation and its role in the prevention of various vaccine-preventable diseases. Dr. Sobia Nisar, assistant professor medicine department and geriatric medicine expert discussed in detail the importance of immunisation among the adult population as there’s an increase in life expectancy and demand better quality of life among this vulnerable age group.

Dr Suhail Ahmad Naik, lecturer department of pediatrics deliberated on the vaccination of adolescents especially on the administration of Tdap, HPV and hepatitis-B.

Dr Farzana Bashir, lecturer, Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics discussed about safety of vaccination during pregnancy especially COVID vaccine. She talked about Dos and Don’t of vaccination during pregnancy. Dr. Ashiq Rashid Mir, surveillance medical officer, WHO NPSP Kashmir and Ladakh deliberated on vaccine hesitancy.

The webinar was conducted under the aegis of J&K branches of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) and the Indian Public health Association (IPHA).
